The Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, on Friday, stating that the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh, Suresh Kumar Kait, had the Hanuman temple located in his official residence removed. The Bar Association argued that the temple was government property and had been renovated from time to time with government funds. Therefore, the temple could not be demolished without a government or court order. The association claimed that any such action is an insult to followers of Sanatan Dharma and has demanded a detailed investigation into the matter.
According to the letter, there was an ancient temple in the official residence of the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which had been a place of worship for several former judges, including Sharad Arvind Bobde and A.M. Khanwilkar, who later served in the Supreme Court and retired from there. The letter also mentioned that staff working at the Chief Justice’s residence used to worship at this temple. Even Muslim judges, such as Justice Rafat Alam and Justice Rafiq Ahmed, who previously resided in the same residence, reportedly never raised any objections regarding the temple.
The complaint calls for a high-level investigation into the matter. It also requests that the facts of the incident be made public to address the concerns and doubts among advocates and the general public.
